Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to cut, drill, shape and edge glass using semi-automatic glass processing equipment.This unit applies to glass processing workers.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Identify work requirements
  • Read work instructions and identify job requirements
  • Identify and follow work health and safety requirements, using all required personal protective equipment
  • Determine quality standards and identify procedures in accordance with workplace requirements and industry standards
  • Plan sequence of work to ensure processing is conducted in a logical order
       
Element: Prepare for work
  • Identify components and controls of machines, including emergency stops and guards, and take appropriate action if not in working order in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Accurately calculate and enter information required by machine for required process
  • Clear work area of obstructions and potential hazards
  • Identify and locate glass to be processed and check for imperfections and damage using appropriate handling techniques
       
Element: Conduct processing operations
  • Operate and monitor machines in accordance with manufacturer instructions and workplace procedures to ensure correct product quality and output
  • Make required routine lubrication and adjustments of machines and/or equipment
  • Identify problems occurring during work operations and report to appropriate persons in accordance with workplace procedures, and follow any authorised changes in working procedures
  • Inspect completed product for quality of work and repair, reprocess or discard in accordance with workplace procedures.
       
Element: Complete work
  • Label processed glass and store in accordance with workplace procedures ensuring there are no projections
  • Clean work area, safely dispose of rubbish and identify items for recycling in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Remove and store tools, equipment and unused materials in accordance with workplace procedures
  • Accurately complete required workplace documentation

Assessment Tasks
